Assignment 1

Your task is to interview an MIS professional about Systems Analysis and Design topics. The overall question that you are attempting to answer is:

What should a successful MIS person know about System Analysis and Design?
1)
You may work in teams of up to three on this assignment.  Your team will choose an MIS professional to interview.  

Contact the MIS professional as soon as possible and set up an interview time.  You may interview by phone or Zoom, but in person interview is recommended if possible.


During the interview you will:

- Ask your professional to answer the main question (take notes!)

- Have your professional describe a few MIS positions in their organization (or that they have experience with)

2)- Get their assessment on how important/relevant SAD topics are using a 1-5  scale where 1 is least important and 5 is most important.
 
Here is a template for your report.  Use this as a starting point, adding whatever information you deem important.  If you just do the bare minimum you might get a C on this assignment. 

3)Your task is to not only understand the priorities but also to get context, to get examples of skills needed, technology used, or example principles or practices used. Make sure to collect and report on any interesting comments or insights made by your MIS Professional.

 

The deliverable for this assignment is a written report with the following MANDATORY sections:

F. Based on your interview with an MIS professional, what should a successful MIS person know about SAD?



Assignment instructions:

1) Decide on your team.

2) Choose your MIS professional.  This person must have AT LEAST 5 years of working experience as an MIS professional. Once you have gotten your MIS professional to agree to the interview, email me this person's name and qualifications, and the names of your team members.

3) Contact your MIS professional IMMEDIATELY. You have very little time to get this assignment completed and you must allow time to schedule an interview with your professional. If you are unable to contact your selected professional within 2 days, contact me.

4) Review the report format.  Meet with  your professional. Take notes to enable you to complete the report sections A-F.

IMPORTANT: Fill out the Excel spreadsheet. Be sure to fill out your MIS professional's priorities on the SAD topics table for section D during your interview.  Your MIS professional may ask for more details on a particular topic from the table. If so, you need to refer to the detailed table of contents from your textbook.

If that is not enough detail, then you will have to dig into the textbook itself.

5) Write the interview report. You MUST follow the EXACT format for the report given above.  No credit will be given for sloppy or incomplete work.

6) Submit your report and spreadsheet on Laulima.
